After taking some time for a small break, the OSCAAR Modifieds are ready to close out their season with three back-to-back weekends of racing, beginning with their first trip back to Sunset Speedway since 2015.
Going into the weekend, Gary Elliott is one of the drivers to watch as he has been posting solid finishes weekly, with no finishes outside of the top-10 this year, highlighted by a runner-up at Sauble in July. Historically, Sunset Speedway has been a good track for him statistically with three top-sixes in five starts, including a runner-up.
David Balych enters this weekend with some confidence, as he has two top-nines in four Sunset Speedway appearances. He is looking for a good, solid top-10 finish after failing to place in the top-10 in his previous two starts.
A.J. Emms enters this weekend with momentum as he is the most recent winner on the tour, scoring the victory at Sauble Speedway. Consistency has also been the name of the game, with no finishes outside of the top-eight. The driver of the No. 14 Modified has had success at Sunset previously, scoring a ninth-place finish in August 2015.
Sault St. Marie native Mike Hearty has been out a couple times this year, running both Kawartha Speedway events with a season-best sixth in June. He’s hoping to avoid trouble this weekend so he can score his third straight Sunset top-10 following a fourth in September 2015.
Cory Horner enters this weekend hoping to turn his luck around as his consistent season hit a snag at Sauble when a heat incident resulted in serious damage to his No. 79h. Prior to then, he had posted a top-seven in each of the prior seven events. He knows how to get around Sunset Speedway, posting three podiums in three starts.
Chris Milwain has shown a ton of speed, but the results have been rocky with just six top-10’s in nine races. He could get the job done, following a fifth at Sunset in August 2015.
Luke Gignac is looking for a turnaround in his first Sunset Speedway modified appearance, as he was one of the drivers caught up in the late-race wreck at Sauble Speedway. Prior to that event, he had posted only one finish outside of the top-five in the first seven events, including a pair of victories.
John Harper will be looking to keep the momentum going, following back-to-back top-five finishes. He was solid in his last appearance at Sunset Speedway, as well, scoring a fifth-place finish.
Dale Reinhart is hoping to build on his recent consistency as he has posted no finishes outside of the top-eight this year, including a third-place finish at Flamboro in June.
Tim Tolton is hopeful for a strong run, following four straight finishes outside of the top-10, including a blown motor at Sauble Speedway.
Aaron Mclean will hope to turn his luck around, following a 15th-place finish in his last appearance. He has ran up front this year, with a season-best sixth at Flamboro in June.
Marty Monette has had a roller coaster season so far, and will hope to see Sunset Speedway be the sight of his second career OSCAAR top-10.
Adam Hagen hasn’t had much luck in the past couple of events, posting three straight finishes outside of the top-10. He hopes his first trip to Sunset under the OSCAAR banner goes smoothly for a top-10 finish.
After a rough start to the year, Jase Cornell has been solid as of late with three straight top-10 finishes, including a fifth at Sauble Speedway. This event could present the perfect opportunity for a first career podium finish.
Cliff Hodgkinson has been impressive lately, posting five straight top-10 finishes, including a pair of sixths. He will look to score his first career OSCAAR top-five at Sunset.
After picking up his best career OSCAAR finish with a ninth at Sauble Speedway, Wally Wilson will be hopeful of scoring of his second straight top-10.
Matt Barton will be looking for his second straight podium after a runner-up in his second start of the year at Sauble. He has ran well at Sunset Speedway before, scoring a third and a ninth in his previous pair of events.
Beyond those mentioned here, there are other drivers that may show their face at the Velocity 250 so be sure to be in attendance to see these cars in action. Details about the event can be found at http://www.oscaar.ca or http://www.sunsetspeedway.ca.
