Delaware Speedway played host to the Dickies Outlaws and the Hoosier Modifieds on July 10th. During the off season the management of Delaware asked their fans what series they would most like to see back at the ½ mile oval in 2015. The over whelming answer was OSCAAR and the fans came out in huge numbers to support the return of the series. They enjoyed the high speed of the Outlaws along with the great open wheeled action of the mods.

The racing results at the end of the night will show home town and fan favorite Justin DeMelo celebrating his first OSCAAR win of 2015, and Kevin Cornelius who is still having that perfect season winning streak.

It had been three years since the familiar sound and speed of the Outlaws had raced at Delaware Speedway. The previous visit would see 5 time OSCAAR Champion Rob Clarke take the win and the familiar #49 was back in action Friday in front of his home town fans. Unfortunately an incident on lap one would end “The Champs” hopes of defending the race win. In preliminary race action would see the #17 of Kevin Cornelius, the #7 of Derrick Tiemersma , the #49 of Clarke and the#54 of Mike Beyore all pick up wins, to set the field for the 50 lap main event. The field would be lead to green by the #54 of Beyore and the #82 of Corey Jones, with Beyore getting the lead for the first few laps. On lap three the familiar #89c of Shawn Chenoweth making his second start of the season would firmly plant himself in the lead spot. It was during one of the cautions that Mike Beyore would be overcome with fumes and be forced to park his car for the night. Chenoweth would continue to hold off all challengers until lap 28 when the #17 of Cornelius would make his move for the lead. Following the #17 was the very familiar #10 of Jesse Kennedy who was making his first start of the 2015 season with the tour, and was coming off a big pro late model series win a couple of weeks earlier. The #10 would try everything to get around the 17 but would have to settle for a second place finish at the end. Sitting back watching the great battle up front was the #7 of Derrick Tiemersma who would record his first podium finish of 2015 with a third place run. The #22 of Glenn Watson would record his best finish of the young season with a fourth place followed by sophomore driver #b10 Kelly Balson.

The Hoosier Mod and modified racing has a long tradition at the ½ mile oval just outside of Komoka Ontario. This Friday would see 19 of the best in Ontario sign in for competition. This event would see four teams make their 2015 debut. The #5 of DJ Christie has a lot of laps in a late model at Delware, but this was the debut of the #5 mod as they prepare for a full season in 2015. Monty Kelly in the 96k returned to the tour for the first time, some bad luck in the feature event would not give the team the results they hoped for but they will be ready to tackle Sauble in a few weeks. The #26 of Terry Baker returned to OSCAAR competition taking an advantage of an off weekend from his pro late model. Rookie contender #41 Duane Cinnamon made his first series start along with veteran #79 John Harper who made his first start since his hard crash at Autumn Colours in 2014. The four heat races would see the #12 of David Balych, #8 Gary McLean each getting a win, with Justin DeMelo picking up two qualifying wins. The 25 lap main event would be lead to the green by the #8 of McLean and the #99 of AJ Emms, but it would not take long for the top qualifier of DeMelo to assert that power at the front of the field. Justin would lead 21 of the 25 lap feature event. Behind him there was some serious racing going on as everyone was jockeying for position hoping to take a run at the #82. When the checkerflag waved the #82 had built up a near 4 second lead over second place #63 John Baker JR, 3rd place #8 Gary McLean, 4th place #26 of Terry Baker and 5th place #47 Brian McLean. The Mod drivers will now enjoy a well earned weekend off before resuming the racing action at Sauble Speedway on July 25th.
