Following a couple weeks off, the Queenston Chevrolet Buick GMC, Scott Reinhart Trailer Sales Ltd OSCAAR Modified teams are ready to get back in action this weekend at Sunset Speedway, with their weekend of action presented by Quaker State and Gary Elliott Motorsports.
It marks a special weekend of competition, as OSCAAR will honor Gary Elliott in his final season of racing in Ontario with the Iron Man 72. The unique format will see the OSCAAR Modified drivers run twin 36-lap features across the weekend. They will run their heats as per usual protocol on Saturday, September 21, before capping the night off with the first feature. They will return to Sunset Speedway on Sunday to run the second 36-lap feature, with the grid being set by an inversion of Saturday’s finish.
Gary Elliott should be a driver to watch this weekend. He has ran up front throughout his OSCAAR career, scoring a top-10 finish in 12 of his last 16 features. Historically, Sunset Speedway has been a good track for him with three top-six finishes in 11 starts, including a runner-up.
A.J. Emms enters this weekend with a 50-point lead and only five finishes outside of the top-eight in his past 27 series starts. The driver of the No. 14 Modified has had success at Sunset Speedway previously, scoring a pair of top-five’s in 2019, including a third in July.
Sault St. Marie native Mike Hearty hopes to break into the top-10 as he has yet to score one in four starts this season. In his last nine races at Sunset Speedway, he has posted six top-10’s, including a track-best fourth in September 2015.
Luke Gignac enters this weekend with momentum on his side following 11 top-six finishes in the last 16 races. He knows his way around Sunset Speedway, finishing on the podium in the 2018 edition of the Velocity 250.
Dale Reinhart enters this weekend with momentum, following a win and runner-up in the most recent series events. The Innisfil, Ontario track has treated him well, with no finishes worse than fourth in his last three starts, including a runner-up at Fall Velocity in 2018.
Jase Cornell hopes to keep the positive momentum going following a top-10 in 12 of the last 17 races. Notably, he scored a track-best eighth-place finish at Sunset Speedway in July.
After wrecking at Flamboro, Wally Wilson hopes to be in the thick of the action this weekend. Notably, his best previous Sunset Speedway finish was 12th at the Canada Day Special in 2018.
Chad Strawn is a driver to keep an eye on following a podium finish at Jukasa. He’s been successful at Sunset Speedway previously with a victory a couple years ago, to go with a third-place finish at the Canada Day Special last year.
Kelly Balson showed that he has good speed, with three top-five’s and four top-10’s in his last eight series starts, including a victory in the season-ending Autumn Colours Classic. He will hope to finish one spot better after a runner-up at Sunset Speedway in June.
Jason Keen knows how to get to Sunset Speedway victory lane, having done so in a Canadian Vintage Modified. He will hope to do the same behind the wheel of his OSCAAR Modified following a sixth-place finish in June, and three top-10’s to start the season.
Jason Bowden hopes to have a little more speed this time around, after scoring a 12th-place finish at Sunset Speedway in June. He finished 10th in the series’ most recent event at Flamboro Speedway.
The No. 89c was in victory lane in its last appearance at Sunset Speedway, courtesy of Andy Kamrath behind the wheel. Kamrath will hope to repeat the feat, after coming close at Flamboro Speedway. He was able to rebound for a fourth-place finish following an early-race incident.
Brad Pearsall has made a part-time return to the series following a three-year hiatus. He has finished on the podium in his last three series starts, including a runner-up at Flamboro Speedway in July.
Chad Strawn will be making his fourth start of the season, looking for his third podium finish following a runner-up at Sunset Speedway in July.
Ian Bourque will hope to improve upon his previous two Sunset Speedway finishes this season of 10th and 14th.
Jason Keen has put together an impressive season, with just one finish outside of the top-10 across the eight races. He will hope to score a top-five after placing sixth at Sunset Speedway in June.
Kelly Balson has only made three starts this season, but he has finished in the top-five in each of those races. By the way, the lone trip to victory lane happened at Sunset Speedway in July.
Jeff Showler will hope to score his second-straight top-five following a fifth-place finish at Delaware Speedway.
Bob Franks hopes to break into the top-10 this weekend following finishes of 14th and 15th in his pair of OSCAAR starts thus far in 2019.
Ken Hayward hopes to have the bugs worked out for a top-10 finish, after struggling to find speed in his previous three starts this season.
After dominating the late model season at Full Throttle Motor Speedway, T.J. Edwards will make his first career OSCAAR Modified start this weekend at Sunset Speedway.
Adam Hagen will hope to put together a strong performance as he returns to the OSCAAR fold in the modified division. He finished 13th in the June event at Sunset Speedway.
The MavTV Canada OSCAAR Modified Rookie of the Year battle will certainly have everybody’s attention this season, with a mix of talented drivers hoping to walk away with the prize at year-end.
Norman Newman is no stranger to the OSCAAR scene, as evident by a successful campaign in the Living Lighting OSCAAR Pro Sprints last year. He is also adapting quickly to his modified with four top-five finishes. Notably, he finished sixth at Sunset Speedway in July.
Anthony DiBello has showed speed, as highlighted by a pair of runner-ups this season. He finished fourth at Sunset Speedway in June.
Bryan Batty enters the OSCAAR fold following success in the Ontario Legends Series. It’s been a rough season with mechanical gremlins and wrecks, highlighted by a season-best 11th at Delaware Speedway in August.
The racing promises to be action-packed with several strong contenders hoping to pick up the checkered flag.
