Following a solid rookie campaign in the Queenston Chevrolet Buick GMC OSCAAR Modifieds presented by Scott Reinhart Trailer Sales Ltd, Touchwood Cabinets, and The Fyre Place & Patio Shop, Norman Newman is set to embark on year two.

The work began early in the Newman Motorsports shop with hopes of running up front competitively on a weekly basis. With a year under his belt, Newman feels that his team should be able to come out of the box stronger, beginning right from the season opener at Sunset Speedway’s Spring Velocity on Victoria Day weekend.

“I really like the schedule this year,” he commented. “I’ve picked a couple tracks to really focus on getting better at.”

One of those dates being the second race on the calendar, set to take place at Jukasa Motor Speedway. The excitement comes following a strong run last season with a top-five finish.

“I can’t wait to get back to Jukasa,” he commented. “After the experience I’ve gained after last season, I think we’ll be able to run up front. I’m also excited for our two stops at Sauble (Speedway) as it’s close to home for all of my friends, family and sponsors.”

As previously noted, he had a strong rookie campaign, scoring six top-five’s and 10 top-10’s en route to placing fifth in the year-end standings.

“We had a good season,” he said. “We didn’t achieve all of our goals but we came very close – coming into this series with zero knowledge or experience, running close to the front each week and a pair of heat wins along with winning the John Harper Hard Charger Award.

“I was very lucky to have Brian MacDonald, Hawn Motorsports Team, my Dad & Girlfriend to help me out each week. Also some of my fellow drivers were more then a great help to me this season. Thank you.”

Now with a focus on being stronger in 2020 and possibly securing his first career feature victory following a pair of heat wins, Newman says the team has been making changes to the car, with a focus on making adjustments easier at the track.

“I’ve been going over a lot of our videos and notes to figure out how we can get rid of our weaknesses and turn them into strengths,” he added.

The competition will certainly be tough, though, with a couple new faces joining the fray. To the rookies of 2020, Newman keeps his advice simple for you.

“Don’t get on OSCAAR’s bad side.”
