Why get behind the wheel of a modified? Bryan Batty has a simple answer – They are badass cars.
Though while a lot of drivers were anxious to get to the track last season, Batty was one of the Queenston Chevrolet Buick GMC OSCAAR Modifieds presented by Scott Reinhart Trailer Sales Ltd., and The Fyre Place & Patio Shop who sat on the sidelines and took in the action.
“After a brutal 2019 and COVID, we didn’t mind taking the year off to regroup,” he admitted. “We got to spend a lot of time getting other projects done while upgrading our program to a whole new level that we are confident with.”
Now with everything aligned as he would like, Batty is trying to “remain positive about getting to race” this year, despite the provincial lockdown currently in place. For him, it’s all about gaining more valuable seat time to see whether those improvements pay off.
As Batty referenced, the 2019 campaign did not go as he would’ve hoped, scoring seven top-15’s in 19 starts, highlighted by a season-best 11th at Delaware Speedway. So to be able to improve and break into the top-10 in 2021 would mean a lot to the team.
“This is a very tough field and every year it appears to get stronger,” he commented. “With the help of someone well known for his cars he owns, we are confident we can get into the top 10.”
With a quick glance at the schedule, Batty admits he is looking forward to going back to Flamboro Speedway and getting “redemption to get that monkey off my back” after suffering two bad wrecks there in 2019.
Batty will once again be behind the wheel of the familiar No. 39 Lloyds Paving (Wyoming Limited), Computerized Tack Coating Services, Lambton Dippings and Coatings, Metal Wurx Media Blasting Modified, bearing the same number of a familiar driver to many.
“My dad worked for Dave Whitlock as I was toddler up until Dave retired so that No. 39 has always been in my head,” he shared. “Looked up to the way he ran his program with the nice clean equipment.”
