Battling up against past series winners at Sunset Speedway last fall, Marshall Schrenk did not back down as he was able to come out on top, scoring his first career OSCAAR Modified victory at Fall Velocity.
“It means a lot to get our first win there,” he commented. “It is my favorite track to race at. I can remember crewing for Rob Clarke on his super late model and winning races there but never imaged I could do it myself. It’s like a dream come true.”
He will hope to carry the momentum now into 2022, feeling if they are able to do they “will be in good shape,” as with the success, he is also having fun.
“It was great to get back to the track with our friends and race after not being able to in 2020,” he added.
One of the tracks he will be hoping to collect a checkered flag will be Delaware Speedway, where he has a ton of experience having raced Late Models there, with the new asphalt only is help build the anticipation. He’s also looking for a bit of redemption, as he saw his feature in 2021 end right off the start on Lap 1.
“The whole team was extremely disappointed as Delaware is our home track and we were all super excited coming off a win from the previous week,” he shared.
For Schrenk, he grew up with a passion for the sport as a spectator, and began helping long-time super late model competitor Rob Clarke while in high school.
“That is what got me hooked on racing,” he recalled. “I remember he even let me drive it at a test session once – that was a real eye opener. My first shot at racing was in one of the bone stocks at my high school. A couple years later we put our own bone stock together and raced the 2016 season at Delaware Speedway.”
Getting ready for that next step up, Schrenk admits his team originally looked into building a Hot Rod, having located a couple Javelin bodies. Though unsure about the car counts at the time, they changed directions.
“We then came across a great modified – being able to compete in a OSCAAR series with a strong car count was a big draw,” he commented. “Also having less body panels to fix was definitely a bonus! We really came to love the creativity in the series that gives each modified a unique look.”
