PETERBOROUGH, Ont. (December 10, 2015) – It’s been only a few short weeks since OSCAAR crowned three champions at Peterborough Speedway following the Autumn Colours Classic, but the schedule is already in place for the 2016 season. The upcoming campaign marks the 26th season of OSCAAR racing and fans across Ontario will continue to be thrilled with the series’ high speed and wheel-to-wheel action.
Series officials have worked diligently over the off-season to offer teams the richest schedule in OSCAAR history. A record $241,000 in posted award is up for grabs between the Outlaw Super Late Models, Modifieds and Midgets spread over a total 36 main events.
All three series kick off their season on the Victoria Day long weekend at Flamboro Speedway. The Outlaw Super Late Models will race a full program on May 21 including a 50-lap feature, while the Modifieds and Midgets will run qualifying races before returning for 30- and 25-lap features, respectively, on May 22.
The Outlaw Super Late Models will compete in 10 races at five different tracks this season. They travel to Flamboro Speedway in Millgrove, Ont. to start the season on May 21 and again for the second race of the season on June 18 followed by events on July 9 and the most prestigious Super Late Model race in Canada, the Don Biederman Memorial, on August 6.
The ‘Supers’ make their only appearance of the season Delaware Speedway on Friday, July 22 before the first of three visits at Peterborough Speedway on July 30 for the Chase for the Colours. The Super Late Models make their annual Civic Long Weekend stop at Peterborough on September 3 before culminating their season at the 24th Autumn Colours Classic October 7-9. The Outlaw Super Late Models make their only stop of the season at Sauble Speedway on August 27. The series will also host a non-points race at Full Throttle Motor Speedway (Durham, ON) on September 10, marking the Super Late Models first race at the track since 2012.
Modifieds Tackle Centre Stage
The OSCAAR Modified Tour will take centre stage on several occasions this year with 14 events scheduled at five different tracks. After starting the season at Flamboro May 21-22, the series will run the first of two events alongside the ISMA Supermodifieds at Delaware Speedway on June 3 paying $1000-to-win. The Modifieds will run alongside ISMA on August 19 after also competing at Delaware on July 22.
The Mods make two appearances each at Sauble Speedway (July 1 and August 27) and Full Throttle Motor Speedway (June 11 and September 10). The Modifieds will be a part of Flamboro’s Oktoberfest Weekend for the first time on October 1-2. The series also stops at Peterborough Speedway twice on July 30 before crowning a champion on October 7-9 as part of the 24th Autumn Colours Classic.
Midgets Ready For Exciting Sophomore Season
The OSCAAR Midgets are preparing for their second season under the OSCAAR Racing banner and will be a busy group this summer as 15 races are on the schedule at five speedways. Following the season opener, Flamboro Speedway will see the Midgets twice more, including the track’s signature Oktoberfest Weekend for the first time on October 1-2. The other visit is on June 18.
The Midgets will travel to one the province’s hidden treasures in Grand Bend Speedway twice (June 4 and August 20) for two tightly contested races on the 1/5-mile bullring. The series also stops at Full Throttle Motor Speedway for a pair of dates on June 11 and September 10. They will also be on tap at Sauble Speedway July 1 and August 27. In addition, the series will crown its second champion at Peterborough as part of Autumn Colours on October 9 after also visiting the track on May 28 and July 30.
