Running a pair of 20-lap features on Saturday night at Flamboro Speedway, the OSCAAR Modifieds saw a pair of drivers picked up their first wins of the season on Don Biederman Memorial Night.
The first saw Luke Gignac start pole ahead of Chris Milwain, Gary Elliott, Cory Horner, A.J. Emms, John Harper and Dan Price.
Gignac put the No. 99 PBS Motors & Pumps, Wolseley Canada, Dave Wiggins Custom Exhaust, OTD Building Supplies, Fox’s Bakery and Deli, TSS Top Shops, Wix Filters, Heritage Heating Contractors, Duckworths Fish and Chips Orillia, Saniflo, and Dwinnel’s Family Movers Modified out front on Lap 1 ahead of Milwain, Elliott, Horner, Emms, Harper and Price.
Emms was set to make up some ground, passing Horner to move up into fourth on Lap 4, while Elliott passed Milwain for second on Lap 5. Unfortunately, Emms’ strong run came to an end on Lap 7 as he pulled off the track with an apparent mechanical problem. As a result, that’d move Horner back up to fourth ahead of Harper and Price.
It looked as though Gignac was headed to his first career feature victory in his rookie season. However, his car began to slow with two laps to go with a mechanical problem. It was discovered post-race the No. 99 suffered a burnt plug wire. When Gignac slowed, Elliot took over the lead.
Gary Elliott led the final two laps behind the wheel of his No. 36 Quaker State, Lincoln Welders, JDS Insurance, Open Doors, Cabral Racing Promotions, Timber Green Landscaping, Grindstone Property Management, Speedway Photos, Permatex, Artica Home Heating & Service, Drew Mac Securities, SU Sports, Scripture Union, EmbroidMe, PPG, Oakville Trailers, FMS and Creative Edge Graphics Modified en route to scoring his first career feature victory.
Chris Milwain crossed the finish line second for his third podium of the season, followed by Cory Horner with his first podium of the year in third. John Harper finished fourth for his second straight top-five finish, followed by Dan Price with his first top-five of the season. Luke Gignac and A.J. Emms rounded out the field.
For the second feature, it’d be Dan Price leading the field to green ahead of John Harper, Cory Horner, Chris Milwain, Gary Elliott, Luke Gignac and A.J. Emms.
Price took the early advantage behind the wheel of the No. 09 Hy-Hope Farm, Cochrane Automotive, Langilles Scrap, A&T Mechanical and Bennett GM Modified ahead of Harper, Horner, Elliott, Milwain, Gignac and Emms.
John Harper wasn’t set to let him get away, getting alongside for the lead at Lap 4. Harper then put the No. 79 Transaxle Parts, Briar Dri-wall, Grisdale Race Products Modified out front on Lap 5, with Horner getting alongside Price for second. Horner completed the move a lap later, bringing Elliott, Milwain and Gignac through with him as Price dropped back to sixth.
John Harper then led the rest of the way to score the feature victory for his first of the season ahead of Cory Horner, Gary Elliott, Chris Milwain and Luke Gignac. Notably, it marks Gignac’s fourth top-five this season. Dan Price and A.J. Emms rounded out the field.
