While discussion has centered on the OSCAAR Modified and Pro Midget rookies, the OSCAAR Outlaw Super Late Models are also going to have some new faces, as well. Jamie Richardson, son-in-law of OSCAAR race winner Dave Taylor, is set for his rookie season in 2017.
“I am pretty pumped to run a full season with OSCAAR in the Super Late Series,” he said. “It’s a huge step for me. I have a lot of support going in to this season with our family team.”
Richardson said it was a natural decision for this year, given his family’s history with OSCAAR.
“Our family has always been around OSCAAR Super Late, whether it’s running our own car or helping other teams out – other teams which we have became really close friends with,” he said. “This year we decided to build another car and got the exciting news that I will be taking the wheel. It’s an honor to me to have a father in law like Dave Taylor to learn from and hope one day be as good as a driver as he is.”
With this being his first year in a super late model, Richardson says he’s focused on finishing every race, while pushing hard to take home the Rookie of the Year Award. As far as the schedule, a couple events stand out but he’s excited to try them all out.
“My home track has always been Peterborough and a couple times at Kawartha Speedway which is a fast track, but I am really excited to try the other tracks that we travel to and just have fun,” he said.
For Richardson, he got interested in racing through attending Mosport Raceway as a kid, and spending time around the modifieds. Now married into a racing memory, one of his memorable moments includes Taylor.
“My most memorable racing moment would be when I got pit beside my father-in-law at Kawartha Speedway when we had our super late and I had my own car,” he said. “Moments like that mean the world to me! I had a crash that night but worked hard to get my car back out on the track for the feature! Dave said later that night he was proud of me for not giving up, which pushed me to exceed on what I love to do with an amazing family that enjoys every part about racing!”
