After a thrilling event at Kawartha Speedway with a first-time winner, the OSCAAR Modifieds are ready to get back on-track with their third event of the year, and second of 2017 at Flamboro Speedway.
After an impressive sophomore campaign last year, A.J. Emms has come out of the gate strong with back-to-back top-five finishes. The Hamilton, Ontario track seems to fit his driving style, with three runner-ups over the past two seasons.
John Harper put together a great 2016, and came out of the gate strong at Flamboro in May with a podium result. However, Kawartha Speedway did not as planned with a blown motor while leading ending his race early. Fortunately, Flamboro is the perfect opportunity for a turnaround as he won there last year in August.
2016 Rookie of the Year Luke Gignac has kicked off 2017 strong with a pair of top-five finishes, including a fifth at Flamboro in May. He came close to winning at Flamboro previously, running up front last October till a mechanical issue.
Gary Elliott has posted a pair of top-10’s to start off this year, giving him 10 top-10’s in his last 13 series events. He knows how to get it done at Flamboro, as evidenced by being the sight of his first career OSCAAR Modified feature victory last season.
While Dan Price drove his modified to a ninth-place finish at Kawartha Speedway, he will be handing over the driving duties to Super Late Model competitor Kelly Balson. The last time Balson drove the No. 09 Modified resulted in a sixth-place finish at Delaware Speedway.
David Balych will continue his search towards his first career series victory, following a pair of top-10’s to start off 2017 for four straight top-10’s dating back to last season. He has ran well at Flamboro in the past, posting a third-place finish last year.
Dale Reinhart continues to put together solid performances, with only one finish outside of the top-10 in his entire OSCAAR career to date. Earlier this year at Flamboro, he posted a seventh-place finish.
Fresh off of his first career victory at Kawartha Speedway, Cory Horner will be looking to put himself in contention for another this weekend with five top-fives in his last six Flamboro starts, including a runner-up.
After finishing just outside of the top-10 at Kawartha Speedway, Tim Tolton will look to put himself back up front after posting a ninth in May at Flamboro.
David Hodgkinson will look to shed the mechanical issues that have plagued his team in his first two OSCAAR starts in hopes of a top-10 this weekend.
Another driver looking to shed the bad luck is Jase Cornell, who has yet to run a feature this year due to mechanical issues in practice and qualifying.
Midget graduate Wally Wilson will look to continue progressing forward following a 12th-place finish at Flamboro in May in hopes of his first career top-10.
Chris Milwain started off the year with a bang, scoring the victory in the season opener at Flamboro Speedway in May. He’ll look to do it once again following a third-place finish at Kawartha Speedway.
Matt Barton made his OSCAAR modified return in May, picking up an eighth-place finish in the season opener. He will look to keep the momentum rolling in getting back to the form fans are used to seeing.
The McLean racing family torch was passed to Aaron McLean this season, who will hope to score his first career top-10 following a 13th-place finish in May.
Adam Hagen is another suspect looking to break into the top-10 following a 13th-place finish at Kawartha Speedway earlier this month.
Beyond those mentioned here, there are other drivers that may show their face on Saturday so be sure to be in attendance to see these cars in action.
Along with the OSCAAR Modifieds at Flamboro Speedway this weekend will be the OSCAAR Super Late Models, OSCAAR Hot Rods, OSCAAR Pro Midgets, and OSCAAR Midgets. They will join Flamboro’s regular Pure Stocks and Pro 4 Modifieds.
The full itinerary and prices can be found on the Flamboro Speedway website at http://flamborospeedway.ca/. Please note the pits open at 3pm EST. If you arrive earlier and find the gate open, do not go through and park, as a sign of respect for the karters who are on-track competing at that time.
