With a couple wins and adversity faced, T.J Edwards was able to shine through for a second-place finish in the year-end Queenston Chevrolet Buick GMC OSCAAR Modifieds presented by Just Foam It.
Edwards began Spring Velocity at Sunset Speedway from the front row, slipping back to third with five laps on the board. He was able to battle the rest of the way to maintain the track position to complete the feature fueled by Touchwood Cabinets on the podium.
With a wedding to attend, Edwards was unable to make the event at Sauble Speedway, electing for Sault St. Marie standout Chase Wilson to drive the No. 34 Modified. Wilson did not start off the evening as intended as contact in his second JRS Auctions Heat relegated him to starting 15th for the feature. He was able to make his way forward, cracking the top-10 at the halfway mark for a ninth.
Edwards was back behind the wheel for Sunset a week later, picking up a heat win in qualifying to start fifth for the feature. He was able to battle his way through the 40-lap affair en route to a third-place finish.
The month of July saw Edwards be one of the few to escape the first lap wreck in the Friday feature, with him slotting into the early lead in the feature. He led until the halfway mark where he was passed by eventual winner J.R. Fitzpatrick to score a runner-up. He returned a day later to pick up another heat win, taking the lead on Lap 14 of the feature to lead the rest of the way en route to winning. The consistency continued back to Sunset, as he ran inside the top-five for the feature with a third.
Edwards’ string of podiums kept rolling into August, as he made his way into the top-five in the early laps at Peterborough Speedway en route to a runner-up performance. He started off his weekend at Flamboro Speedway with a heat win, and made his way up to fourth in the early stages of the feature. Unfortunately with 10 laps to go, he got caught up in lap traffic, with contact resulting in a trip over the turn four wall.
His team went to work over the next couple of weeks with the necessary repairs being made in time for Fall Velocity at Sunset Speedway. There was no slowing him down as he was able to score a heat victory, but the feature on Sunday was rained out.
The return to Delaware saw another heat victory, with Edwards running inside the top-three throughout the feature until fading in the final 10 laps for a sixth. He carried the momentum to Flamboro a week later with a fourth, and ran inside the top-five at Peterborough’s Autumn Colours Classic, slipping back a spot on the final restart for a third.
Despite a mid-season setback, T.J Edwards was able to capture a feature victory and a solid finish in points to back up his 2021 division championship.
