Making the most out of each appearance on the Queenston Chevrolet Buick GMC, Scott Reinhart Trailer Sales Ltd OSCAAR Modified tour in 2019, Kelly Balson would finish the season ranked 10th in the year-end standings.
Balson did not start out the season behind the wheel of the No. b10, with J.R. Fitzpatrick filling in for the first feature of the season at Jukasa Motor Speedway. The past OSCAAR Super Late Model Champion ran up front all race long, en route to scoring a runner-up finish.
Balson would run his first feature at Sunset Speedway in June, making his way forward throughout the feature after starting just outside of the top-five en route to a runner-up finish. He then returned to the 1/3-mile oval a month later, taking the lead on Lap 17 and pacing the field the rest of the way en route to his second career OSCAAR Modified victory.
The momentum carried over to Peterborough Speedway in August, with Balson running inside the top-three throughout the event and challenging for the lead in the late stages before finishing fifth.
The short track playoffs started off strongly for Balson, as well, as he was able to run up front throughout both Iron Man 72 36-lap features at Sunset Speedway. He would score a runner-up finish on Saturday night, followed by sixth on Sunday despite being sent for a spin with four laps to go.
He would then make his way forward throughout the 50-lap feature at Flamboro Speedway, finishing third despite contact mid-race. An injury from the incident would force Balson to miss the final event of the season at Peterborough Speedway, with Fitzpatrick back behind the wheel of the No. b10. He showed speed once again running inside the top-three, ultimately finishing eighth following a mid-race spin.
Despite only being involved in the modifieds for a couple seasons now, Kelly Balson and the No. b10 have shown a lot of speed in their outings, certainly leaving their mark as someone to contend with in the future.
On behalf of OSCAAR, congratulations on your success this year Kelly Balson, and we look forward to seeing you back on-track in 2020.
