After experiencing some rough luck through his rookie campaign, Bryan Batty is hoping for a stronger sophomore Queenston Chevrolet Buick GMC OSCAAR Modified presented by Scott Reinhart Trailer Sales Ltd., Touchwood Cabinets, and The Fyre Place & Patio Shop campaign.
“There’s a lot of strong teams and they are all improving,” he said. “That just means we are in for a long off season to make sure our car is capable of being competitive.”
In hopes of improving their program, Batty says the team will be focusing on a “few selected races,” instead of running the full schedule.
“We expect with the improvements and more seat time to be able to run a lot better and be more consistent,” he added.
Although their official schedule has not been released yet, you will most certainly see the No. 39 Modified when the series heads to Delaware Speedway in 2020.
“It’s our home track so we have our sponsors and family in the stands cheering us on,” he commented.
Last season featured a bunch of ups-and-downs for Batty, culminating with him picking up the Hard Luck Award at the year-end banquet following a season-best 11th at Delaware in August.
“2019 was the most discouraging year we have ever had,” he admitted. “Every time we unloaded something on the car would malfunction or something would happen on track to cause us to pull off early. Short story is it was just not our year and our luck did everything it could to make us see that.”
Now heading into this season, Batty feels a combination of chassis updates and learning as much as he can will help them see some improvement.
“Hopefully expanding our crew and making sure we spend more time testing and playing with different setup styles,” he added.
For Batty, he got his start in racing growing up around Whitlock Motorsports, before getting behind the wheel of a dirt oval kart down in the United States. Through his young career to date, he has been able to have success behind the wheel with a couple championships.
“I think my second championship was the most memorable as it came down to the last feature,” he commented. “After getting out through everything they could toss at us we pulled through and won it on their home track.”
For those interested in getting behind the wheel themselves, Batty’s advice is to spend a lot time around your local track, talking to the racers and learning as much as you can before purchasing a car.
