Although there were race winners and consistent runners inside the top-10 in the final Queenston Chevrolet Buick GMC OSCAAR Modifieds presented by Just Foam It standings, there was a bunch whom did not make that group.
So without further ado, here are some drivers whom should be recognized.
Chad Strawn / J.R. Fitzpatrick
Any time the No. 77 makes an appearance at an OSCAAR event, you have to count him at someone to watch for the victory. Chad Strawn showcased that with a fourth at Sunset Speedway.
He was supposed to run Autumn Colours Classic at Peterborough Speedway, though instead it was J.R. Fitzpatrick taking the controls. The past OSCAAR Super Late Model Champion proved to be a worthy candidate in driving his way through the field to the runner-up spot. He was closing in on Andy Kamrath for the top spot, though ultimately ran out of laps.
Both of these competitors would be welcome regular full-time competitors given their abilities behind the wheel, as you know it’d make battles for the win more interesting.
Herb Walters
Prior to the season finale at Peterborough, Herb Walters purchased the No. 66 Modified and showed what he can do behind the wheel as evident with a seventh-place finish.
The past Super Stock Champion has us hopeful of what the 2022 Rookie Class could be capable of.
Jeff Walt
Jeff Walt has plenty of speed, as proven by winning the pole at Jukasa Motor Speedway last season. He showed it once again this year, including a heat victory at Peterborough Speedway. However, he never got the results deserved following an incident at Sunset and mechanical issue in the finale.
So there’s only one question to ask – What if?
Marshall Schrenk
You have to wonder what could have been if Marshall Schrenk would have ran the final two races of the year. After all, his return to the division was not short of speed at all with a dominating victory at Sunset Speedway highlighting three top-10 finishes.
If we could see the No. 22 back on the tour full-time, he could be a legitimate championship threat.
Norman Newman
If you look at the overall consistency of the season, Norman Newman was unable to find a flow with a couple incidents at Sunset Speedway and Delaware Speedway being his downfall come year-end.
However, you cannot ignore his performance at his home track of Sauble Speedway. He led the field to green, followed by the initial 10 laps prior to giving up the lead to eventual race winner Kamrath.
Ultimately, he did not fade back fall in crossing the finish line in third.
Despite the consistency not seeming to be there, his speed show he is still someone to watch.
Steve Lyons
When Steve Lyons announced his intentions to join the tour in 2021, a lot of people began to wonder whether he would be a contender. Those questions were erased in the season opener with a stellar performance as he won a heat, prior to placing third in the feature.
A 10th and a 15th to follow in his next series starts, and you hope to see him back in 2022 to see what else he is capable of.
