With consistency through the season in just a single finish outside of the top-10, Kelly Balson completed the year ranked fifth in the final Queenston Chevrolet Buick GMC OSCAAR Modifieds presented by Just Foam It standings.
Balson ran inside the top-10 all-day at the Sunset Speedway opener, before making some moves in the final five laps to secure a runner-up. He returned to the Innisfil facility two weeks later, making his way up to fourth in the early laps, followed by another couple passes late to cross the finish line in third.
Qualifying rained out at Sauble Speedway saw him start mid-pack, where it took him the first 15 laps to break into the top-10. He was unable to make up much ground, crossing the finish line in eighth. A return to Sunset a month later saw him run mid-top-10 all event long, placing ninth.
The results followed him to Delaware Speedway where a week later, he placed ninth. His season hit its lowest point at Flamboro Speedway as he ran inside the top-five the first half of the event, until running into issues on Lap 21. He was scored 13th at the checkered flag.
He capped off the season with a seventh-place finish at Peterborough Speedway.
After starting off real strong, there was a lot of hope to watch Balson ultimately insert himself into the championship campaign. Perhaps some work during the off-season will be exactly what they need to do so in 2022.
