Despite a rocky season at times, Dan Price was able to persevere en route to posting a fifth place finish in the final OSCAAR Modified point standings.
Price started off the season on a solid note, showing speed as he held the lead in the season opener at Flamboro Speedway with five laps to go. Unfortunately, a late race spin would relegate him to a sixth place finish.
“It looked really promising at first, and it kind of thought we could win the race at Flamboro leading with five laps to go and then ended up going around,” Price said in June. “It sucks – could’ve won that race. We got together; I spun out – it’s racing.”
He was hoping for a strong result at Delaware, running in the top-five at the halfway mark. Unfortunately, a spin and contact with the wall resulted in not finishing the race.
He didn’t let the finish get him down for long, though, posting a pair of top-seven finishes in the races which followed at Flamboro. With some solid finishes, confidence was in the air moving into the second half of the year for the driver of the No. 09 Hy-Hope Farm, Cochrane Automotive, Langilles Scrap, A&T Mechanical and Bennett GM Modified.
“I know the car is there; it’s just a matter of getting the adjustments right and staying out of trouble,” he said. “That’s the main thing – staying out of trouble so you can be there at the end. Look at Delaware – ended up doing something on my part, spinning out and taking me out of the race. I’d like to say that we can win every race, but realistically I know that we can’t.”
The confidence paid off in the races which followed as he kept the top-10 trend going with three more top-seven finishes, including a fifth place finish at Flamboro in August. Unfortunately, Delaware didn’t treat him well once again in August as he finished 11th after getting out of shape mid-race.
With the solid consistency for most of the season, Price was able to become one of the drivers locked into the inaugural Race for the Cup. It didn’t pay off as he wanted, though, as he suffered a DNF at the Autumn Colours Classic due to being caught up in a crash. He was then able to finish the season off with a seventh at Flamboro Speedway.
On behalf of OSCAAR, congratulations Dan Price on your success this past season. We look forward to seeing you once again in 2017.
