With consistency across the year in his 50th season of racing, Gary Elliott was able to place fourth in the OSCAAR Modified standings.
Elliott started out the year strong at Sunset Speedway, finishing seventh in the season opener despite an incident in qualifying. He wasn’t able to run as well at Kawartha Speedway, though still scored a solid 12th-place finish. Ultimately, he hit a mid-race season snag of just missing the top-10, placing 13th at Jukasa Motor Speedway and 11th at Sunset Speedway after winning his second heat.
The veteran persevered through the rough patch, though, and was able to find some momentum as the series entered the summer stretch. He finished 10th in the second trip to Kawartha, followed by a sixth at Flamboro Speedway after starting on the front row. The consistency continued as he started August off with a seventh at Peterborough Speedway, before leading flag-to-flag en route to a feature victory at Sauble Speedway. He then backed it up with a heat victory and seventh when the series returned to the beach a couple weeks later.
Kicking off the short track playoffs at Sunset’s Velocity 250, he showed speed by sweeping both of his qualifying heats, but ultimately got caught up in a wreck in the feature en route to finishing 16th. He was able to rebound, though, finishing eighth at Flamboro’s Frostoberfest despite being involved in an incident.
He then capped his year off with a heat win and an eighth at Peterborough’s Autumn Colours Classic despite being spun mid-feature.
