INNISFIL, Ontario — After a couple weeks off, the stars of the Queenston Chevrolet Buick GMC OSCAAR Modifieds presented by Just Foam it are ready for a busy stretch with four straight weeks of racing, beginning with Fall Velocity at Sunset Speedway.
As we glance through the field, there are several drivers to keep an eye on.
Kelly Balson showed that he has good speed with 10 top-five’s and 14 top-10’s in his last 18 series starts. The past Sunset Speedway winner hopes to carry the momentum into this weekend, after a pair of podiums at Sunset this year.
Jase Cornell hopes to turn things around, as he has failed to score a top-10 in the last two series events. Notably, he scored a track-best seventh at Sunset Speedway in September 2019, before a pair of ninths last year.
T.J. Edwards certainly proved that you can’t count him out of the battle for the win despite being a rookie, as evident by winning the 2019 season finale at Jukasa Motor Speedway. He has ran well at Sunset Speedway, scoring a pair of top-10’s including a runner-up in August in his last three appearances.
A.J. Emms enters this weekend with only seven finishes outside the top-eight in his past 38 series starts. The driver of the No. 14 Modified has had success at Sunset Speedway previously, having won two of the series’ last three appearances at the Innisfil, Ontario oval.
Coltin Everingham will be making his seventh start behind the wheel of a modified at Sunset Speedway, but that doesn’t mean you should count him out. The past Super Stock track Champion won a heat in July, and has scored a track-best fifth.
The No. 89c was in victory lane earlier this year at Sunset Speedway courtesy of Andy Kamrath behind the wheel. He hopes to repeat that feat after having won the series’ two most recent events at Sunset and Sauble Speedway, giving him eight checkered flags in his last 11 series starts.
Jason Keen knows how to get to Sunset Speedway victory lane, having done so in Canadian Vintage Modified. He will hope to do the same in his OSCAAR Modified, following a pair of top-five’s in his last three appearances. He currently has scored a top-10 in five of his last seven tour appearances.
Norman Newman is no stranger to the OSCAAR scene, picking up a couple heat wins in his 2019 rookie campaign. He enters this weekend with momentum, following a fourth at Sunset and a third at Sauble in August.
Dale Reinhart enters this weekend hoping to turn things around after failing to score a top-10 at Sauble following a pair of incidents. Notably, he has scored a top-10 finish in 11 of his last 12 series starts. The Innisfil, Ontario track has treated him well with just four finishes worse than fourth in his last nine starts, including a runner-up at 2018 Fall Velocity.
Wally Wilson hopes to be in the thick of the action this weekend, aiming for a top-10 performance. Notably, he scored a track-best eighth at Sunset Speedway last season, and only has one finish worse than 12th in his last three Innisfil, Ontario oval appearances.
Marshall Schrenk hopes to turn things around after getting caught up in an incident at Sauble Speedway. He has ran well at Sunset Speedway this year, scoring a pair of sixth-place finishes.
Luke Gignac will hope to keep the positive momentum rolling after scoring an eighth at Sunset and a seventh at Sauble.
Paul Townsend is no stranger to modifieds, having raced them in the United States for a couple of seasons. So far, this year has not gone as planned with bad luck plaguing him in each of the three races so far.
Steve Lyons has done a lot in motorsports, and is ready for the next chapter of his racing career in the modifieds. He started off his OSCAAR campaign well, finishing third at Sunset and 10th at Sauble.
Jeff Walt hopes the motor problems that plagued him at Sunset do not reoccur at Fall Velocity, ready to run upfront. He showed speed last season, setting the quickest time in qualifying at Jukasa Motor Speedway.
Chad Strawn is a driver to keep an eye on after showing speed last season. He’s been successful at Sunset Speedway previously with a victory a couple years ago, to go with a runner-up last season. He is also looking for redemption following fuel pick-up issues at the season opener.
These drivers, as well as others, are certainly looking forward to making the trip to Sunset Speedway. It promises to be a busy weekend, with lots of action on both Saturday, September 18 and Sunday, September 19.
Saturday will feature qualifying for the modifieds, Knightworks Design OSCAAR Hot Rods, Pro Late Models, Limited Late Models, Super Stocks, and Mini Stocks. It will also include qualifying and features for the Bone Stocks, T.Q. Can-Am Midgets, Jr Late Models, and Outlaw Midgets.
Sunday will include the features for the modifieds, Knightworks Design OSCAAR Hot Rods, Pro Late Models, Limited Late Models, Super Stocks, and Mini Stocks. It will also include qualifying and features for the Ontario Legends Series and Ontario Outlaw Super Late Models.
